With and Without

A big thank you to Anton Gostev for shooting this video. Last week at VM World in Copenhagen my client Veeam Software was back to back with one of their competitors. This video clearly shows the difference between a booth with an Infotainer and without.

Working fror Team Veeam

This is a recent shot of me working at the Veeam Software booth at VM world. This year their attendance was up. It's great to see a trade show that is building each year upon the last. Around 20,000 IT Professionals descended upon Las Vegas to take part in the biggest event in the Virtualization Industry.
It was great to see companies embracing the idea of having a live presenters, trade show magicians, and even jugglers to generate their leads. There were 10 of us creating crowds and leads for our clients throughout the show. I met some real pros and can't wait to see them once again on the trade show floor.

The Power of Free

I just finished listening to Chris Anderson's book (free on audible) "Free: The future of a radical price" an he makes a great case for what he calls "rounding down to zero". He postulates that anything in the digital world will eventually become free whether it's information or services.

This new generation that has grown up with computers is very much use to the idea of getting things free online. The sooner companies realize this the sooner they can profit from this trend.

The idea of free plays a huge role in trade show marketing. Whether it's free trials, free giveaways, free massages the list goes on and on. The power of free is undeniable. We as trade show marketers can harness this power and take it to the next level. What can you offer free that your competitor charges for without hurting your bottom line?

In the book the author tells of the story of how Jello finally got off the ground. The jello recipe and business changed hands a couple of times until someone got the idea to give free jello recipe books to households to create a demand for the product. Free recipes to sell Jello. Free razors to sell razor blades. The list goes on and on.

The race to zero has begun. How can you round down to free?

Trade Show Crowd Attraction Article

I thought you might enjoy this excerpt.

Excerpt form "Exhibitions and Trade Shows by S. Ivan Jurisevic

"When you are at a show, walk around and notice where show visitors are gathered. Almost invariably, it is where there is an activity of some sort going on. Sometimes they involve testing their skills in a fun way, perhaps throwing balls, hitting golf balls or driving remote-controlled cars. Sometimes they are purely entertainment, such as provided by singers or magicians. Or they may be celebrities such as sports people.

Even an interesting video can draw people. Sporting videos are among the most attractive, especially ones showing spectacular crashes and spills. I have even seen running a live broadcast of a football game, and it was attracting a lot of people.

All of these can both fun to watch, and they can certainly get a large number of people around the booth.

Use the demonstration as a prospecting technique. If, instead of a general interest demonstration, you demonstrate your product, it will tend to attract those who have an interest in it. Those who are not interested will move on, which is exactly what you want. In addition, your staff can move amongst the people watching the demonstration and further qualify them to identify prospective clients.

----

But our product/service can't be demonstrated

Some companies say that their service cannot be demonstrated, and they can give all sorts of reasons why.

Find a way. Sit down with your team and brainstorm a way to do it. There is always some method of demonstrating your service, even if it is only a person talking to a video that shows your product in use.

Incidentally, a video on it's own, be it a corporate video or one of your product in action, will not do the job. You know this yourself from all the lonely videos you have seen at shows, busily talking to nobody at all. The key is that there is a live person on your stand talking to passers-by and engaging them in an exchange of information."
