I love this book! I didn't realize there were so many different kinds of push-ups. This book is filled with instructions and pictures and dozens of short inspirational quotes and snippets. I used to have a push-up regimen but I'd gotten away from it. This book has inspired me to add that diversity back into to my workout regimen. If you're up for a little challenge, and for feeling better physically, mentally, and emotionally, buy this book, get to work, and have fun! Thanks Colonel Bob.
The basic premise of "600 Push Ups - 30 Variations" is that "the push-up is the best, most complete upper body exercise", which explains why it is a core feature of military training. It shows the reader how to maximize upper body strength and endurance using push-ups, some running, and some basic calisthenics -- no need for expensive gym memberships.
The first of three parts contains a brief overview of the utility of push-ups and guidance on how to do them safely. The second is a fully illustrated manual on 30 different kinds of push-ups. He closes with the most important part, which is a series of several multi-week workout programs designed to get the reader into top condition.
Short, readable, fully illustrated, direct, and results-oriented this book delivers exactly as advertised.
600 Push-ups 30 Variations is a handy little book, jam-packed with information. As a Black Belt and someone who travels frequently, I'm always on the lookout for ways to exercise, and often I don't have the to go to the gym. Bob's book offers a huge variety of exercises that require no equipment, no gym, and very little time.
600 Push-ups 30 Variations is also very well illustrated, with clear and detailed pictures of Bob demonstrating each of the exercises.
There are also excellent routines included - I especially enjoyed the 600 pushups incorporated into a 60 min run.
Like many things in life, it's the basics that you can fall back on and build upon, and this is exactly what Bob's book does.

I have always considered push-ups to be one of the best exercises for building lean muscle so I could not agree more with Lt. Colonel Bob Weinstein. In his book 600 push-ups, 30 variations. He advises "The push-up is the best, most complete upper body exercise in the world. That is why it is the foundational exercise of all our military forces." In this book, Weinstein both describes and demonstrates plenty of variations on the standard military style push-up and even includes work-out plans to help you get in shape. I had no idea there were that many variations on push-ups. He has included modifications that are both fun to try, AND make your work-out more difficult. I especially loved the "Scorpion" push-up. Google the word 'pushups' or 'pushup variations' and get just as much or more useful information. Nothing new or helpful here. The ArtofManliness.com website has an article with basically the same information and it has youtube videos to show demonstrations of each pushup variation. It's not necessarily bad info, it's just readily available for free on the web. I will give it 2 stars since I suppose it is good to have the info easily accessible on my .
Great little book just when you thought you now every thing about the PUsh Up. This book contains some good help full hints concerning the PUsh up. Short and sweet its worth a quick read.

600 Push Ups is an interesting little book by Retired USAR Lt. Colonel. The book is well published. The pictures are good. The instructions on the 30 push up variations are clear.
The choice of the 30 push up variations is apparently at random from the many variations available. Yes, they are mostly listed in order of difficulty. The title “600 pushups” comes from an on the spot challenge to do 600 pushups within 60 minutes of a run, distance or time not indicated. Weinstein does later in the book admit that that is a rather extreme case, and was designed for a man about to climb Mt Kilimanjaro.
The workouts recommended in the book lack luster and life.
If want a list of and instructions with decent pictures for 30 different pushups, this is a good little book. But beyond that I, at least, found it at best lack luster and unimaginative.
